What are the most useful things to add to OSM?
-
I’ve been mapping now for a few weeks and getting fairly confident with it all. But I have wondered to myself how useful are the things I am adding? I know to an extent everything is useful to the project, however I want my contributions to be as useful to as many people as possible.
So my question is what is the most useful thing (or things) to add to OSM? Are there any majorly under mapped areas where my time would be most useful? Appreciate any replies

Roads (existence) - make sure the roads exist and are drawn correctly. In the US, the road data is mostly good where there are mappers interested in improving it. But there are large parts of the map where we just don't have a lot of mappers and the road data needs to be checked that it's even there and joined together. Some background: much of the US road data was imported from a census dataset called TIGER. (other map providers like Apple and Google originally sourced a lot of their data from TIGER too, and they've cleaned it all up over many years in their map products). It's hit-or-miss quality, and was designed more for people walking around asking census questionnaires, not as a map for navigating.
